COLOMBO MALAY WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM

It was a proud moment for CMCC as Padang was selected by the Colombo Hockey Association (CHA) to hold the 9 a-side Hockey Tournament in January. All preliminary matches were played at the Padang. The organizing committee of CHA had praised the Ground Staff and Club Manager Sanath Preethijith for the excellent preparation of the ground and making available all other facilities that had helped them to successfully conduct the tournament. As for the performances both Men and Women’s teams fared very well. The CMCC Women’s team won the Plate Championship by beating CR & FC twice in the tournament, thereby bringing glory and silverware to the club after a long drought. We congratulate the ladies on their victory The Men’s team was very unfortunate to be beaten in the Quarter Finals by St. Peters on penalty strokes (16/17). The score line indicating how closely the match was fought before losing. Coach Shehan Omerdeen did an outstanding job coaching the teams and building the squads from scratch. All indications are that the revival of Hockey has indeed began and a big bouquet of thanks to the energetic Hockey Secretary Azad Jurangpathy, for his untiring efforts to uplift the standard of the game at CMCC. The past glory days of Hockey are back for sure! We also congratulate Mr. Azad Jurangpathy, for been re-elected to the Post of Vice President of Colombo Hockey Association.
